Lumiere is a community. Without judgment
Lumiere Liverpool & Beyond.
Lumiere Charity was founded in February 2024, inspired by one family’s journey through the challenges of raising a child with a rare genetic condition. Born out of love, resilience, and a desire to make a difference, Lumiere is a community-led charity that supports children and young adults with disabilities across the North West and beyond.
Our name, Lumiere, meaning light, symbolises hope, inclusion, and the belief that every child, regardless of their needs, deserves the chance to shine.
About Lumiere
Lumiere Charity was founded with one mission.
Lumiere Charity was founded with one mission: to ensure every child, regardless of ability, has a place to grow, play, and thrive. Inspired by the journey of Jaxon, a young boy with Kabuki Syndrome, Lumiere was created as a beacon of support and inclusion. We believe in celebrating differences and creating opportunities for children and families to feel seen, supported, and empowered.
We are more than just a play space — we are a community. Our centre exists because too many families of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) feel overlooked and under-supported. Lumiere is a place where children can express themselves safely, and parents and carers can connect without fear of judgment.
Why Lumiere Matters
Recent research shows that over 800,000 children in England have a recognised SEND diagnosis — yet a vast number of families report lacking access to suitable leisure or community spaces. A 2022 survey by Contact charity revealed that 9 in 10 parents of disabled children experience social isolation, with more than half saying they have nowhere suitable to take their child to play.
Lumiere exists to change that. Our facility is designed to remove barriers, not just physically, but socially and emotionally. We are driven by the belief that inclusion should never be an afterthought — it should be the foundation.
